6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week — a record high as coronavirus takes its toll

The highest number of unemployed Americans is causing a concern about the health of the US economy and the adequacy of the $2 trillion federal bail-out passed last week.  As CNN reports “Unemployment claims at this level suggest a severe job market decline hardly any American alive has ever seen in their lifetimes.” Concerns are mounting about a knock-down effect to businesses across the nation, as demand is expected to take significant blow across main street industries.
